ABOUT FOPAG
The Federation of Parents Associations, Gujarat (FOPAG) was established to unite parents and their associations under a common platform, ensuring their concerns are voiced strongly and collectively to the government and education-related departments.
The formation of FOPAG was driven by the introduction of the Fees Amendment Act (FAA) 2017 by the Government of Gujarat. This act aimed to regulate the excessive fees charged by unaided, self-financed schools that were permitted to operate only on a nonprofit and charitable basis to provide affordable and holistic education. However, noncompliance by these institutions led to conflicts between parents and schools, as many institutions prioritized profits over education, resulting in discrimination and financial exploitation.
Many schools have been exploiting parents, leveraging their children's education as a pressure point and adopting a divide-and-rule approach. Due to fear of harassment, many parents hesitated to raise concerns publicly. Activists stepped in to fight for their rights since 2016, but without a coordinated approach, individual efforts were often manipulated or dismissed by institutions and government authorities.
Observing these developments, it became crucial to establish a Federation that could unify various associations and activists under one roof, providing a strong, collective front to address these issues effectively.
At FOPAG, we firmly believe that education is a fundamental right and should be imparted fairly and equally, without discrimination based on caste, religion, social status, gender, or age.
Our MISSION is to promote transparency and eliminate illegal practices in educational institutions. With the support of experienced advocates, educators, and activists, we provide legal and technical guidance to ensure fairness in education. Our GOAL is to elevate education standards to a global level by researching, reforming, and strengthening the educational framework of Gujarat and the nation.
